Clifton Gardens House

Mosman NSW

Providing spacious contemporary living spaces for a large family in an existing Federation home, this house includes formal and informal entertaining areas, whilst maximising the available views of the harbour. The careful restoration and adaptation of the existing house juxtaposes the modern pavilions of the new living areas. The project also transforms the previously unusable rear garden into a structured outdoor living space with a pool.

The new casual combined living, dining and kitchen space and rumpus room are housed in 2 steel and glass pavilions that have been added at the rear of the house and wrap around the pool. These two pavilions open to the garden and pool. With an engaging outlook, the pavilions have good natural light and take advantage of breezes for natural ventilation. The ceilings of these spaces use multiple levels of highlight glazing for light and ventilation which add richness to the space. The interiors of the house are integrated with architecture and the artwork and furniture of the owner. A number of one off joinery pieces in the house are conceived and built as pieces of detailed furniture using rich Blackwood and Tasmanian Oak veneer.
