St Andrews College

Tanner Kibble Denton Architects have been working with St Andrews College at the University of Sydney since 2011 to develop a masterplan to guide the expansion of the college over the next 10 years. St Andrews College seeks to increase the residential population of the college, provide new and upgraded facilities for residents, and explore opportunities to partner with and link to The University of Sydney, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and the surrounding community.

The masterplan provides a GFA of approximately 29,500m2 across a number of new and existing buildings. The proposal includes up to 327 new student rooms, 153 basement car spaces, and a 4,600 m2 health services building adjacent to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Features of the masterplan include: a multipurpose building incorporating study, meeting and performance spaces; new tennis courts, gym and student common room facilities; new College administration facilities; a new principals residence, and an enhanced pedestrian link with the University of Sydney incorporating a café at the Western Avenue college interface.

A key part of the proposal is the rationalizing and renewal of the landscape. This includes a new formal pedestrian axis between the Main Building and University Campus defined by avenue planting; a new ceremonial forecourt and improvements to the existing courtyards to the Main Building; new planting and other landscape works throughout the site including oval upgrade, improved courtyard spaces, green walls, increased biodiversity and boundary planting; and external lighting to new accessible pathways and the public domain
