A traditional and secluded country retreat, this project has transformed a series of neglected buildings and unstructured gardens into a new rural ensemble. The first element of the project added a library / living space and a new master suite to the existing house. Following this, further alterations to the house were made including: re-configuration of the guest accommodation, extensive re-working of the kitchen and dining areas, construction of a pool and associated pool house, site master planning and landscape design and restoration of outbuildings for guest accommodation.

The library opens up on three sides with cavity sliding timber framed glass doors and fly-screens to a deep traditional verandah overlooking the lake and rolling landscape. The pool house and pool is sensitively positioned – the idyllic country swimming experience. Featuring local bluestone extensively in base walls, the house and the pool house are both grounded and sit purposefully on the site. Operable aluminium louvres integrated into the roof of the verandahs allow natural light deep into the building whilst maintaining the traditional lines of the verandah form. The subtle palette of materials and colours is neutral and understated, forming a backdrop for the extensive collection of art – both internally and externally.
